QAMA'S BAPTISM

Dear beloved,

I would like to share with you some of the truly blessed moments related to the baptism we had in our church a couple of weeks ago. It is not really fair to say, but among the baptisms that I performed over the course of years, there are some that I remember better and more fondly than others. Having said this, I believe that this baptism will stay with me for a long time.

And the reason for that has to do with a person that was baptized, whose life and testimony of salvation reflects the two opposites in this world - the brokenness and fallibility of humans and redemptive love and forgiveness of God.

It is too little to say that our sister in Christ, Qama, has had a hard life. Over the years serving in Konik, I’ve heard so many gut wrenching life stories, and hers is among the worst ones. After the years of suffering betrayal, abandonment, poverty, humiliation, life threatening violence, Qama has met God whom she initially approached curiously and yet, cautiously. At first, the church was a tool to help her deal with her burning needs, but as the time passed by, the Word started conquering her heart, to the point that she was ready to give her life to God.

Observing her was itself a humbling experience. Weeks before the baptism, Qama’s whole demeanor changed. The presence of the Spirit in her words, actions, prayers, etc became so obvious, with her face literary glowing during church services. She radiated an atmosphere of peace, deep joy and trust in God.

When the day of baptism came, a group of us from the church went to a beach. All the time of the travel, she was quiet, yet clearly excited, in the deepest and the most sublime sense of the word. She was ready to enter into a covenant with God and she was rejoicing for it.

I have to admit that that day wasn’t the easiest one. The very act of baptism was preceded by numerous big and small disturbances, which all threatened to ruin the day. I confess it humbly - it was her demeanor and collectedness that influenced the rest of us and gave the act of baptism and the whole day, a dignified and celebratory tone.

Please keep her in your prayers, as she is struggling greatly with numerous family issues. After returning to Kosovo several years ago, she found there nothing but difficulties and struggles, so she is trying to return to Montenegro. Please pray she can be reunited with us to continue to grow in faith surrounded by Body of Christ. Pray that others will follow her example and that the word of God will not be contained and will find a way to the hearts of many.
